LESSON 2
April 6th: This lesson was focused on "Joy"
- The story of Paul and Silas in prison found, in Acts 16:16-34, gives a good example of how to JOYFUL even in the most trying of times. As the two men sat in prison, heavily guarded, they sang hymns and openly made a joyful noise unto the Lord with all surrounding them listening in. As the prison began to shake, their chains were broken and the prison doors flew open. The guard, who thought all the prisoners had fled, started to try and kill himself. Paul and Silas stopped the soldier from this act and showd him that all the prisoners had not even attempted to flee. God works in mysteriously powerful ways! Paul and Silas had planted an interest in this prison guard about the one true God! The guard invited them to his house and their he and the rest of his family came to know and follow the one, true, God!
Acts 16:34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.
A couple of other verses for you to look at:
John 15: 9-11
9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
Psalm 30
1 I will exalt you, LORD,
for you lifted me out of the depths
and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
2 LORD my God, I called to you for help,
and you healed me.
3 You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead;
you spared me from going down to the pit.
4 Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people;
praise his holy name.
5 For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may remain for a night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.
6 When I felt secure, I said,
"I will never be shaken."
7 LORD, when you favored me,
you made my royal mountain stand firm;
but when you hid your face,
I was dismayed.
8 To you, LORD, I called;
to the Lord I cried for mercy:
9 "What is gained if I am silenced,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
10 Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me;
LORD, be my help."
11 You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
12 that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.
LORD my God, I will praise you forever.
LESSON 1
March 2nd: We started out with "Love"
I John 4:7-12
"7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."
